Hoodlums allegedly chase members away in Abesan

The voting process of the All Progressives Congress governorship primary was disrupted for a while at Ward G North, Abesan, in Alimosho Local Government Area as thugs chased away members of the party.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the thugs numbering about 15 invaded the Abesan High School, venue of the exercise at 9.45am on Monday, flogging members, preventing them from getting accredited.

The motive of the hoodlums, as well as their sponsors, could not be ascertained as of the time of filing this report.

Some policemen at the venue later responded to the situation by arresting some of the hoodlums and restoring normalcy.

NAN, however, observed that there was a large turnout of party members waiting to cast their votes for either Governor Akinwunmi Ambode or Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

Lagos commissioner Kehinde Bamigbetan dumps Ambode

Lagos-commissioner-_Kehinde-_Bamigbetan-dumps-_Ambode98636092567788.jpg

Lagos state commissioner for information and strategy Kehinde Bamigbetan has renounced his support for governor Akinwunmi Ambode for his opponent Babajide Sanwo-Olu for the ruling All Progressives Congress governorship ticket.

Bamigbetan, who was the special adviser to Ambode on community relation and communications before being appointed a commissioner, is a well-known grassroots politician with thousands of supporters.

Recall Bamigbetan wrote Ambode’s statement of declaration for the direct primary election of the party amidst speculations the party structure in the state had turned their back at Ambode’s second term bid.

However, Bamigbetan declared total support for Sanwo-Olu at his Ejigbo residence, Lagos Mainland, 24hours before the primary election on Monday, October 1, 2018, in front of party leaders, members and other stakeholders.

The commissioner’s move was in connection with the resolution of the party leaders to adopt Babajide Sanwo-Olu who is a former commissioner as the APC flag bearer for the Lagos State gubernatorial election in 2019.

Bamigbetan urged party leaders and members in Oshodi-Isolo that Sanwo-Olu must get 100 per cent votes during the party’s gubernatorial primary election holding today, Tuesday, October 2, 2018, across the state.

He stated that his action was in alignment with the decision of the party leaders and the directive of the party National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The Commissioner ordered the party leaders under his ward to mobilize the entire members of APC in Oshodi-Isolo and Ejigbo to cast vote for Sanwo-Olu.

He reiterated that his loyalty remained for the party National Leader, Bola Tinubu, and the party as a whole, saying he could not do anything contrary to the party’s directive at this point in time.

While the primary elections were ongoing in the state today, some results that have been announced include Bamigbetan’s Ejigbo WardF5 which Sanwo-Olu won by 14,490 votes to 0 votes to Ambode.

Lagos APC primaries: We’ve not started voting, NWC chair warns

The National Working Committee’s panel of the All Progressives Congress conducting the governorship primary election in Lagos State on Tuesday has warned that, contrary to some claims in certain quarters, voting has yet to commence.

The committee said it had been in a crucial meeting with key stakeholders, after which the primary poll would officially commence.

The chairman of the panel, Mr. Clement Ebri, in a telephone conversation with our correspondent, said the panel had been in a crucial meeting with the chairman of the APC in Lagos, agents of the two contenders in the primary election – Governor Akinwumi Ambode and Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu — and other stakeholders.

He explained that the essence of the meeting was to clear some grey areas and agree on the guidelines for the primary elections, as directed by the national leadership of the party.

When alerted about the viral videos of the primary election purportedly ongoing, with Sanwo-Olu allegedly leading the poll, Ebri said the primary election had yet to begin as of the time of filing this report.

He said, “The primary election hasn’t started. We are in a meeting with the party chairman in Lagos and the agents of the two contenders in the primary election.

“There are grey areas to be ironed out. We want to organise a free, fair and transparent primary election and that is why this meeting is very crucial.

“It is after we have settled the grey areas and address all the stakeholders’ concerns that we will send people out from here to conduct the primary.”

Ebri said any election purportedly carried out in any ward in the state earlier today is null and void as the stakeholders had yet to agree on important guidelines for the primary election.

On whether only party members with identity cards would be allowed to vote in the primary election, Ebri said no.
He explained that all the members in the register provided by the National Working Committee of the party would be eligible to participate in the election.

“This is one of the issues I discussed with our national chairman. All members whose names are in the register from the National headquarters will be eligible to vote. Whether they have the party identity cards or slips, they are eligible to vote. However, the slips must be genuine and not fake.”

Ebri advised party supporters, residents and other stakeholders to be wary of fake elections results being peddled on the social media.

NWC cancels Lagos APC primaries

The National Working Committee of the All Progressive Congress sent from Abuja to monitor the party’s governorship primary in Lagos State has nullified the exercise held across the 20 local government areas of the state on Tuesday.

The Chairman of the committee, Mr. Clement Ebri, who addressed the press around 4.30pm at Protea Hotel, Alausa, said the election could not have held because the committee was still expecting the list of representatives of one of the two aspirants.

The primary is being contested by Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the state Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode.
Ebri, however, did not mention the camp that defaulted on the modalities for the election.

Lagos APC declares Sanwo-Olu winner of governorship primary

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State has declared Babajide Sanwo-Olu as winner of the gubernatorial primary election held in the State.

The chairman of the party in the state, Tunji Balogun made the declaration at the state headquarters of the party in Ogba, Ikeja, on Tuesday night.

Balogun said, ”We were preparing for the election on the 1st of October before the cancellation was announced. The same thing was done again today but we were in the queue for most part of the day and I have observed that the elections have been free fair and transparent.

“It was direct primary, truly direct. Human beings were counted, not phones, not ballot papers. It would have been very painful to disenfranchise 1.5 million Lagosians who are members of APC who took part in today’s primary.

“I commend and salute them for their doggedness and forthrightness. The results have started come in and we waited till we got the last result.

“It is my pleasure and delight to announce the result of the election conducted in all the wards of Lagos state. The results are as follows Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, 72,901 votes. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, 970,851 votes.”
